Title: 1879 Columbia Standard

At Copake, I was fortunate enough to acquire # 1044 of the 1050 Columbia Standards manufactured in 1879. The wheel size is 44".
Glenn is inquiring if any of the 1878 bikes exist.
How many 1879 Standards are out there?

I know of six surviving examples. I don't know the serial numbers of all of these though. One is now on display in N.Y.C. at the "Cycling in the City" exhibit . If any Wheelmen member happens to view this exhibit ask if you could have a look at the serial number that is stamped on the top of the left side crank.

The ' 79 Columbia appears at the beginning portion of the video.

What year and maker (Columbia or Bayliss Thomas) is this? Where do I look for the serial number if not on top of left side crank arm? Note necking down of steering head just below handlebar mount and mount has two holes for screws?

This is possibly the remains of a "Special" Columbia circa 1882/83.
This predates the Expert.

Here are more shots of the High Wheel I'm asking about...
Has two screw holes on backbone for a ID plate like 1880 or so Pope Columbia Standards as well as screw on step with round pad.. These shots you can see the hub, cranks etc better...
Do you have any photos etc of a Columbia Special like you mention Glenn...
I have not been on any of the bike collector sites in many years. As we all know life sometimes puts us on hold.....
By the way Glenn I still have a 1894 Columbia Model 36 you sold me like a hundred years ago lol...
