Question on selling Replica
« on: November 20, 2019, 10:43:56 AM »
My wife inherited a high wheel bike from an estate.  We've been able to determine that it is a replica Boneshaker from Cleveland, Ohio.

We are trying to get a little more information to put a value on it to sell it.  Also, any thoughts on how to sell it?

I've included a few pictures where you can see that some of the chrome is showing rust and there are a few paint chips as well.  I do know that it has never been ridden by anyone in the family, so I can't even say if it is road worthy.

Any thoughts?  thanks bob

I hope my remarks aren't taken the wrong way, but these high wheels don't sell for a lot of money, you can buy almost the same thing brand new for a low price from Greg Baron.  As for how or where to sell it, eBay and Craigslist often have these listed.  Search on those two sites and you'll probably find one from time to time and you can see what others are asking for theirs and set your asking price accordingly.

This was on eBay and I sent you a note about it mentioning the points that were brought up in the thread. You're a bit high on the price you are asking. But, it's your bike and lightning could strike. Though if I recall, yous aid you were selling it for someone?

bsmithy2k, I have purchased several of these Cleveland, Ohio built replica Boneshakers over the years one for myself and others for friends that wanted one. Typically the ones I found were in slightly better condition (less rust) than the one you have pictured. In my personal experience they typically sell for about half the cost of a new and still available "Standard" model http://www.hiwheel.com/antique_replicas/boneshaker_standard.htm The most I have ever paid for one that looked nearly new was $600 and the least I have ever paid was $200 for one that needed some work. Others I have purchased were somewhere in that range as well so that may give you an idea what your Boneshaker Highwheel bike may bring, likely somewhere in that range.
