Shipping High Wheel Bicycle
« on: July 01, 2019, 10:20:53 PM »
Hello,

I have a high wheel bicycle for sale on eBay and somebody is interested in buying it. I have it up as local pickup only and told him he could hire a 3rd party to pick it up and ship it if he really is interested (I'm in CT and he is in Miami). He was looking for advice on how he could get it shipped to him. Has anybody shipped a high wheel across the country so I can direct him in the right direction? The bike is a 56" Columbia Expert.

Thanks in advance!
Nyle

Nyle, some wheelmen have made a shipping carton for doing exactly what you propose. I think one Wheelmen even sells the cartons large enough for a 56". I made one using two full size bike cartons slipped together and taped with fiberglass reinforced tape. The whole thing doesn't weight more than 70 pounds and can be shipped by UPS and FedEx.

Bike Flytes is the very best way to ship.
Two bike boxes works best. Have to take bike apart and zip tie all the parts together.
Bike Flytes will pick up for a small fee

Hi All,

I have used the U-Ship shipping service

https://www.uship.com/

Shippers bid for your business. There is feed back that you can see.

It's worked well a couple of times for me.

Thank you for your responses. I will give him the Uship and maybe the bike flights option. Anybody have an idea idea how much it would cost for this double bike box method from CT to Miami? I know it will change depending on weight and size of the box, but I am just looking for a very rough estimate.
