General discussions on Wheelmen topics. / CMC 52” roadster saddle
« on: October 29, 2019, 01:12:43 PM »
I just acquired the wheel and am just thrilled to have one from that decade!
I believe that the seat pan wouldn’t have had steel loops for a tool roll because some were equipped with a rear wheel luggage rack and saddle bags.
I hope that I am wrong.
Does anyone here know for certain?

Thanks for all your efforts and making me feel so welcome!
I had the time of my life and thanks to 150 friends I was able to overcome my crippling case of Ordinariphobia!
Just sitting and listening to the conversations about past meets and hunting down old treasures was just fascinating!
If I had been thinking on my feet I could have recreated a Texas Wheelmen photograph, where the subjects were dressed more like cowboys.
I have already verified that Amtrak will transport my 48” Ordinary to Dearborn so I hope to make next years meet, Lord willing, and the creek don’t rise!

Are there STILL dorms available this late?
I am hoping to make it.

I am looking for a spoon brake and handlebar clamp for my 48” Centaur. It would probably be similar to a Columbia and I imagine that I will have to modify it.

June and I are still undecided as to our further membership in the group. She has been the costume chairman, and had been working on revising the costume bulletin for a good while. She was pushed hard all this past spring and summer to get it done, and then it wasn't posted until I got fed up and really pushed those in charge to do so! It's up now, not that anyone ever reads it!

Please thank your dear wife for the uniform bulletin! It has been a great help to me as I attempt to make my own!

General discussions on Wheelmen topics. / Bottom bracket design

When did clenched bottom brackets generally go out of favor?

I have the same one you do.
It was $25.00. I have seen them for as much as $75.00. The manufacturer is written in small print at the very bottom but I do not have my jewelers loupe with which to read it again.
In other photographs Col Pope is younger I believe. Sorry to not been more of a help....

I have never seen such an asymmetrical tangential lacing pattern.
Is it a clue to the origins of this example or was it the work of someone who wanted to try something different. The slotted cranks were used on some English HTS so maybe it is English? It almost looks like the cranks and pedals belong on an ordinary....

What city/state are you in?

John is correct.
The Robert H Hugman story is quite interesting.

I went down to the Pearl this morning for breakfast at bakery Lorraine. The Pearl is a repurposed brewery that has lofts, shops, the culinarily Institute of America and restaurants. I used to fit steam pipe there many years ago.
I stopped for a photo at some old shrine on the way home.

It turns out that the southern reach of the riverwalk is definitely navigable on an ordinary. I look forward to riding it on one soon!

I finally gave in to temptation and am in the process of acquiring a HTS from Mr. Cates.

He informed me that it is missing the steering neck clamp/nut.
Does anyone have one laying around or possibly photograph one that is in use?

He did sell me a  new block chain for it, and indicated the grips are wrong, so I’m going to need to know what pedal rubber and grips are acceptable for this example.
It has holes for a head badge so if possible I would like Any clues as to who manufactured it. I will take detailed photos whenever it arrives.

I’m about to begin adventures in sewing since I have had no luck in commissioning one. So far I have only used my 1908 Singer patcher for leather seat covers and I have also made pillows and curtains so this is definitely out of my comfort zone! I have the patterns, fabrics and three sets of buttons, one being original. Being in Texas, they will not have liners. It may seem counterintuitive but long sleeves do keep the sun off your arms. The first one will be grey, and If it turns out the next one will be blue. It’s a light blue so as to absorb less heat.
I have also wondered why few Wheelmen take advantage of the array of period eyewear on eBay. They are better quality, usually rolled gold and less expensive than modetn frames.

Thank you Mr. Williams for the hard work of setting up a more user friendly site. I wasn’t stopping by anymore because it was always error 404.
