Wheels and Tires for my 1896 Crescent
« on: December 31, 2019, 01:35:36 AM »
I was wondering , are these wheels and tires appropriate to use at meets and gatherings. I bought the a few years ago from Luxlow on eBay. Also, is there a way to get ride of the writing on the side wall without ruining the white on the tire?
If they are not , what is a reliable alternative
Thanks in advance, Mike

I don't see any problem with using the wheels and tires for meets As far as removing the lettering Iam not sure what works best. I have used black marker to cover white Lettering on black tires. But going the other way not sure.

I too see no problem using those as rider wheels at Wheelmen meets. They look pretty good to me. I have seen much less accurate looking wheels with nexus 7-speed hubs used and not much was said about it.

As for the black lettering on the cream/white tires I have seen it painted over with paint similar to tire color. I have not personally tried to do that so not sure what paint was used but I have seen it done.

I have used  a dremel sanding disk to carefully remove the black letters

In the large mass of original antique bicycle catalogs that I am currently selling, I do have a 1896 CRESCENT catalog for sale. I also have other years of CRESCENT bicycle catalogs as well.
Email me and I can send you a photo/description and we'll talk from there.
